U.S. RN Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions

How does the TN visa process work for Canadian RNs?

The TN visa is a work visa under the USMCA agreement (formerly NAFTA), allowing Canadian RNs to work in the U.S. with a qualifying job offer.

NurseMatch assists throughout the process by:

✅ Ensuring your job offer meets TN visa requirements

✅ Guiding you on required documentation (such as your RN license, proof of citizenship, and employer letter, Visa Screen/Visa4 Nurses)

✅ Connecting you with immigration support for a smooth border crossing and work authorization.

What are the benefits of working with NurseMatch vs. finding a job on my own?

NurseMatch specializes in direct hospital placements not travel or agency contracts.

This means:

Long-term job stability at a reputable U.S. hospital

Seamless immigration support so you can focus on your career

No placement fees—we work directly with hospitals, and there are no costs to you as a nurse

Unlike job boards, we match you to the best fit based on your experience, preferences, personal ambitions, and long-term goals.

What support does NurseMatch provide after I accept a U.S. rn job offer?

We don’t just place you in a role—we ensure a smooth transition into your new job and new home.

Our post-placement support includes:

TN visa assistance for renewal or border concerns

Credential verification & licensure help in your new state

Local resources & community connections for housing, banking, and more

Ongoing career support if you have questions or need guidance

We’re with you every step of the way—from the moment you apply to your first day on the job and beyond!

Do I need U.S. experience to apply for u.s. rn jobs?

No! While some roles prefer U.S. experience, our hospital partners welcome Canadian RNs who:

✅ Are NCLEX-passed

✅ Have at least 1 current year of acute bedside experience

✅ Are committed to a long-term hospital role

All of our partnered hospitals value Canadian nursing experience and provide continuous support to help with the transition.

Can I apply if I don’t see my specialty listed?

Absolutely! Even if you don’t see your specialty today, we encourage you to:

  • Submit an application to join our NurseMatch Talent Pool
  • This allows you to stay updated on all new openings
  • Reach out to our team for a personalized career consultation

We are always expanding our hospital partnerships, so your ideal role may open up soon!

Can I bring my family with me if I move to the U.S. for a nursing job?

Yes! If you obtain a TN visa for your nursing job, your spouse and children (under 21) can accompany you under a TD visa.

Here’s what you need to know:

✅ TD visas allow your family to live in the U.S. with you for the duration of your TN visa.

✅ Spouses cannot work under a TD visa, but they can attend school without needing a separate student visa.

Children can enroll in U.S. schools with a TD visa, making it easy for families to transition.

Our expert immigration team (Liz and Ashlen) can guide you through the family visa process and help you settle into your new home smoothly!
